My name is Vaishali Patel and I want to serve your wellbeing. I genuinely believe that by helping you improve your life experience, you will be happier, and you will have better relationships with friends and family. Thus, your presence and positive energy will create a ripple effect that ultimately improves the lives of people around you, your community, and the world. I will work with you to find the best strategies to help you tune into your life and tap into proven techniques to help you move forward no matter the challenge. I provide support specific to particular challenges or issues you might be facing with proactive counselling on how to improve your life, to prevent these issues from repeating or bringing you down in the future.

Why I Do This

In short, I have waged a battle against Superwoman Syndrome.  In the past decade I have gone through a number of life transitions, nothing tragic or traumatic, but ones that caused my focus on my own wellbeing to shift (marriage, moving, having children, changing jobs). Although I was a therapist the whole time, I found that it was difficult for me to keep an eye on my self care even though I was encouraging others to do so for themselves. I realized that many women with families and careers have similar experiences, and decided to develop a practice that helps women like me move forward when they’ve veered off their paths to wellness. I feel that it’s not realistic to help women strive to have it all. My Experience & Credentials

I am registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.  I also hold certification with The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I have been counselling since 2003, and worked in the field of Employee Assistance Programming (EAP) for more than six of those years, gaining experience and a greater understanding of the importance of work life balance, and overall wellness of individuals.

My Approach

I am a client-centered therapist, and use the Wellness Approach ‒ working with what is right, instead of what is wrong ‒ when providing psychotherapy. I regularly use the Indivisible Self Model of Wellness, the Five Factor Wellness Inventory, and Wellness Planning techniques to help you move forward in your overall life experience. Other approaches I draw from include but are not limited to cognitive behavioral, existential, and solution focused theories of psychotherapy.

My Connection with Wellness

I received my Master’s Degree in Community Counseling at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (UNCG). While attending the UNCG program, I had the opportunity to take a course taught by professor Jane Myers, a distinguished expert in the field of counseling and wellness. It was through her course that I developed a deeper understanding of wellness, and the value of a proactive, preventative approach to optimizing your well-being. The Inner Engineering program I took with Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has further helped me expand on my personal sense of wellbeing. Incorporating the daily practices learned through Inner Engineering has clarified and fortified my ability to assist others in improving their wellbeing as well. I have been consistently praised throughout my career by colleagues and clients for my ability to quickly build rapport with clients, which is essential in developing a healing environment. I hope to help do the same for you as I carry out my career mission.
